Microcurrent is a form of electrical stimulation therapy similar to Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS), but it uses up to 1000x less current than TENS. Microcurrent treatment is primarily used for the treatment of pain, though it may have many other applications that currently being studied in academic medicine. Many patients particularly enjoy this form of treatment as it is not painful. In fact, most people cannot even perceive any sensation with the treatment. Rather they may only notice something is happening when realizing the pain is receding or gone.
Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM) is an advanced form of microcurrent that is used around the world by all levels of practitioners to treat pain and related conditions. Frequency Specific Microcurrent allows the practitioner to pick stimulation frequencies that are relevant to the tissue in question with the goal of delivering more targeted therapy than by using arbitrary stimulation frequencies.
Microcurrent treatments may be offered in-office or during home visits. The setup for treatment usually has the person being treated sitting in a recliner chair or on a cozy massage table. Electrical connections to the body are made with bare skin contact using wet towels, metal plates, or sticky patches. Most sessions last 75-90 minutes, but, depending on the person's needs, may take up to 2 hours. Microcurrent treatment can also be performed along with other therapies such as Biofield Tuning, acupuncture, and IV nutrient infusions.
While many people may benefit from microcurrent therapy, there are a few contraindications to know about. Anyone who is pregnant or attempting to get pregnant may not receive this treatment. Also, anyone with implanted electronic medical devices such as pacemakers or pain medicine pumps must not receive this kind of therapy. People who are very sensitive to various kinds of stimuli should talk to Dr. Joe about the potential benefits and challenges with this therapy.
We currently utilize the Senergy Tennant Biomodulator and Frequency Specific Microcurrent. Dr. Joe regularly updates his training in these tools so he may offer the best protocols and procedures to maximize benefits for his patients.
Studies using microcurrent have shown that tissue healing may be accelerated, particularly in the case of wound healing. Studies are beginning to show microcurrent may be helpful in the treatment of neuropathy, post-operative recovery, headaches, tempromandibular disorders (TMD), arthritis, fibromylagia, and many other painful conditions. Microcurrent is also being studied for the treatment of Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia.
When preparing for your treatment with microcurrent, the first step in preparing for your visit is to drink at least 16 oz of water within 2 hours of your appointment. This helps the energy flow through the body more easily, ensuring the best possible outcomes.
It is best to wear comfortable clothes. Depending on what part of your body requires treatment, your clothing may get wet. So you may wish to bring a change of clothing just in case you do not want leave your appointment with damp spots on your attire. Also, you will very likely need to remove your socks and shoes, as we often make contact with the feet for treating many parts of the body.
If you have music you prefer to enjoy for relaxation or meditation, feel free to bring your music player and headphones or earbuds. You may also want to bring a book to read or a portable electronic device for enjoying media while receiving your treatment.
Many patients only require a few treatments, and maximum results can typically be achieved in fewer than a dozen. Most people notice a difference in the first one or two sessions. A strong influence on the number of treatments required will depend on our ability to help you remove or improve the underlying cause of your pain.
As a patient with Natural Frequency Health we can develop custom protocols to treat your conditions. We are familiar with the operation and programming of Precision Distributing equipment and Inspirstar/MEND Technology units. If you are a Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM) device owner, we can update your device to help you treat your conditions. We can also provide assistance in optimally using your unit for your needs.
